Community guidelines

Last updated: August 2026

Queer Common exists so LGBTQIA+ people can find each other, organise, and get resourced. These rules protect that. They are short on purpose — read them once and you will know where you stand.

Everyone here belongs

No slurs, no harassment, no dogpiling. That covers racism, transphobia, biphobia, misogyny, ableism, antisemitism, islamophobia, fatphobia, and every other way people get pushed out of spaces that were supposed to be theirs.

Exclusionary politics — arguing that trans people, bi people, ace people, intersex people or sex workers do not belong in queer community — are not a debate we host. That question is settled here.

Names and pronouns are not up for discussion

Use the name and pronouns a person gives. Getting it wrong occasionally is human; correcting yourself and moving on is all anyone asks. Doing it deliberately or repeatedly is harassment and we treat it as such.

Do not out anyone, including yourself by accident

Never share someone's identity, HIV status, immigration status, relationships or location beyond where they shared it. What is said in a closed room stays in that room.

Think before posting a photo with other people in it. Someone in the background may not be out.

Use content warnings

Add one for suicide and self-harm, sexual violence, detailed transphobia or homophobia, eating disorders, medical detail, and explicit material. The button is right there in the composer.

Warnings are not censorship. They let people choose when to read something difficult rather than being ambushed by it.

Funding requests are made in good faith

Apply for what you need and describe it honestly. Do not use the platform to run fundraising scams, chain-letter appeals, or pressure people privately for money.

If someone messages you asking for money and it feels wrong, Clock it. That is what the flag is for.

What happens when a rule is broken

Most of the time an admin will talk to you first. Repeated or serious harm gets your account suspended — you can still read, but not post or message.

Threats, doxxing, sexual content involving minors, and coordinated harassment mean immediate removal and, where relevant, a report to the authorities. There is no warning for those.
